We are due for another Asian horror movie trend. In the early 2000s The Ring, The Grudge and Shutter were massive movie hits. Prior to the push in the early 2000s there was The Blair Witch Project in 1999. the movie became a cult phenomenon because their was a rumor (prior to social media) that the creators of the movie simply walked around with the old school VHS camera and made the movie on a cheap budget.
Now, 20 years later, there have been remakes of The Blair Witch Project but nothing will compare to the hype of the original. Anyone in high school or college in 1999 sprinted to the movie theaters to watch the movie. Whether it gave you motion sickness or not is a discussion for another time. Now that 90s kids are seeing remakes of all their favorite shows and movies like Saved by the Bell, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Friends, it will be interesting to see if Netflix gobbles up the rights to The Blair Witch Project and puts it on everyone’s home screens. Our good friend and 40/42 Garner, NC Dentist Dr. Adam Moore always talks about how this movie came out right as he was getting into college. I think many of us have this memory.
As soon as we learn more about the original (OG) Blair Witch Project coming to Netflix we will update this page with the information on when it is available. You can always but it on Amazon Prime video. Do not expect the original Blair Witch Project to be on Apple TV+, Hulu or Disney+.
